The documented shocking events from members and associates of MIDAS 614, along with the report of the Deputy General of Military Justice, Ioannis Kokoretsas, shed light on the mystery of the treacherous death of Ioannis Tsigantes and the arrest of radio operators and other members of his mission.
Although the betrayal was intricately planned, some incidents are connected and lead to conclusions. The treacherous phone calls from unknown informants were simply the execution part of a plan by allies, which had already been put into operation from the start of the mission.
As in every war, there were agents, spies, informants, and enemy collaborators. Some of them were in key positions, very close to the Leader of MIDAS 614, and acted in a way that did not arouse suspicion among the other members of the secret organization.
The patriotism and heroism of the brave Ioannis Tsigantes made him uncontrollable and therefore dangerous to the plans of some dark circles. Ioannis Tsigantes, during the short time he acted against the Occupant, gathered information, carried out sabotage, and mediated for Napoleon Zervas's participation in the Battle of Gorgopotamos.
The written memoranda of political leaders, which Ioannis Tsigantes transmitted to the British Authorities along with a relevant report at their request, are revealing. He managed to unite the political leaders into a supra-party National Resistance Council.
However, he was not to witness the first session of this Council, as it was scheduled for the day after his heroic death by betrayal.
