Today, nationalizations are part of the History of Law and Economics. The interest of this work "French Nationalizations & Compensation for Owners - Business Valuation & Legality Check" lies in highlighting the inability of a State, protector of Individual Freedoms, to respect the property of its citizens in times of crisis.

Does the law of necessity justify these violations? The work addresses the compensations for owners who lost their properties due to nationalizations. It is divided into two parts, one purely economic and one legal.

The first part examines the methods of business valuation in the private sector and the solutions adopted by the French legislator in order to assess the value of nationalized businesses.

The second part explores the conformity of the French valuation methods to the existing law. It also examines the constitutionality of the valuation methods and the opinions of international law scholars on the subject.
