Description

The Arduino Wireless Proto Shield with SD port ICSJ010A allows connection to a wireless module such as Xbee, providing extra space on the PCB between the headers for prototyping.

The Wireless SD shield enables an Arduino board to wirelessly communicate using a wireless module. It is based on Digi's Xbee modules but can use any module with the same dimensions. The module can communicate up to 100 feet indoors or 300 feet outdoors (with line of sight). It can be used as a serial/USB replacement or can be set to command mode for configuration to various transmission and networking options.

The shield has separate contacts for each Xbee pin on soldering breadboards.

The board includes an SD card port. When using the SD library to access the card, Pin 4 is CS and cannot be used elsewhere. The SPI also utilizes Pins 11, 12, and 13 for communication.

The Wireless SD shield has a switch labeled as Micro and USB. This determines how the Xbee's serial communication connects to the serial communication between the microcontroller (ATmega8 or ATmega168) and the USB-to-serial chip on the Arduino board.

Features:

  • Requires an Arduino board (not included)
  • Operating voltage: 5V (provided by the Arduino board)
  • Supports micro SD cards
  • Port for wireless expansion modules
