Description

Since the “proclamation” of the Autocephaly of the Church of Greece, a devout wish and constant request has been the publication of the New Testament and the rendering of the original text into scholarly modern Greek.

This desire was expressed even more strongly as an urgent request after the inauguration, under the late Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Spyridon, in June 1951, and the operation of the Printing House of Apostoliki Diakonia.

This major theological and ecclesiastical issue was repeatedly brought up for discussion in the Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece and, ultimately, in 1978, it was decided to publish the New Testament, by Apostoliki Diakonia, in scholarly modern Greek (demotic) language.

Difficulties and obstacles arose again, but by the grace of God the work was brought to completion. And we are in the very pleasant position to inform you, with spiritual joy and sacred emotion, that the New Testament has now been printed - the original text together with its rendering into scholarly demotic language.

The rendering into scholarly demotic language is the work of the Emeritus Professor of the Theological School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the highly learned Mr. Christos Voulgaris.
