Description

Description

The WR1500 by Cudy is a router, a device to which other devices (e.g., computer, mobile phone, TV) connect either wirelessly or via cable, and through which they share internet access. For internet access, it needs to be connected to a modem. It is of Wi-Fi 6 generation, the most modern Wi-Fi standard that offers speeds up to 40% higher than Wi-Fi 5. It coordinates communication with connected devices to consume less battery and performs better in environments with many Wi-Fi devices. Ideal for homes with many smart devices. It broadcasts signal on two frequencies, 2.4 & 5GHz. It offers higher speeds compared to single band and connection of more devices. The 2.4GHz frequency is the most widespread and has a long range. The 5GHz provides higher speed than the 2.4GHz but is more sensitive to obstacles (e.g., walls) that reduce its range. This difference, along with its more limited use, helps it have fewer interferences from other networks.

Enhanced coverage, lower latency

The upgraded Wi-Fi 6 standard features MU-MIMO and OFDMA for both downstream and upstream, multiplying network capacity to better handle heavy usage conditions.

Connect up to 128 devices

High-capacity Wi-Fi for smart home

Keep buffering at bay with Wi-Fi 6 standards. The advanced 1024-QAM modulation and higher symbol rate increase the 5 GHz speed by 38%, delivering ultra-fast download speeds that rival a wired Gigabit Ethernet network.

WPA3 Security Protocol

Encryption of your Wi-Fi at the highest level

The older WPA and WPA2 are vulnerable to brute-force attacks. WPA3, as the latest encryption protocol, encrypts your wireless communication at the highest level, protecting your data from leakage.

For those who cannot install a new firmware, check if the date and time are correct. Also, to upgrade from version 1.x.x to 2.x.x, you must first install an intermediate firmware version, which can be found in the folder with the files you download.

I have had it for about two months without any problems. I got it mainly for the built-in VPN, but I haven't gotten around to setting it up yet. I have placed it in a small space, so I don't have an opinion about the WiFi range, but it seems satisfactory. So far, I am very satisfied.

Used as mesh on top of the provider's device. Relatively easy to set up because you need to install the latest firmware and from there you do everything from the app, even if you are on another network. I did not encounter any issues with coverage in the 100sqm space, the VPN is set up very easily and you can activate it individually for any device you want through the app.

I don't know what those who write positive reviews found in it, I got it two days ago and I feel like throwing it off the balcony. After the last update, which was really hard to install, it has crazy issues with VPN connections, it's not even worth discussing. It's better to pay a bit more and get the 3,000 model because after the update it's slower than a lame turtle, it's pure hassle. I got the next model and finally found peace of mind. If you don't experience it, you won't learn

Extremely user-friendly and very good for simple and medium use. I don't know if it can do something extra that an experienced user might ask for. Although an experienced user probably wouldn't be looking in this category. I set up a VPN on the router with a simple process. However, despite the upgrade I made, it doesn't have an option for an openVPN client, only for PPTP, L2TP, and wireguard. I think the wr3000 also has openVPN.

Regarding signal, I placed it next to the provider's one, turned off the provider's signal, activated the automatic switching 2.4G/5G, and even though the speed has dropped due to VPN, on my phone, which is not one of the best, I feel I have greater speed. And this in rooms where I previously struggled to get a signal.

Very good router and stable to increase the range of the signal compared to most routers provided by ISPs. However, I would not recommend it for use with VPN (at least for Wireguard since it does not currently support OpenVPN and likely never will) as due to hardware the speeds it can support with VPN are around 20mbps. Better to go for a router with a better processor like the WR3000 or WR3600 from the same company if you have a 100+ mbps line.

The router supports WireGuard VPN, NOT OpenVPN. Although WireGuard is better and faster, some VPN companies do not support the installation of WireGuard on the router (there are some codes that they need to provide you) or it requires a lengthy process for this installation. So before you buy and if you are interested in the VPN, do good research on which VPN companies support it.
