Description

The edition “The Great Library of Carl Barks #6: Return to the Klondike” is one of the most iconic volumes of the series, as it includes a story considered by many to be the masterpiece of the “Duck Man.”

In the sixth volume, Uncle Scrooge begins to lose his memory and the doctor advises him to take “memory pills.” This awakens memories of his youth as a gold prospector in the frozen North.

The Journey: Scrooge takes Donald and the nephews and returns to Dawson, where it all began.

Goldie: Here appears for the first time Goldie the Shiny, the only love in Scrooge’s life. The story uniquely combines adventure, nostalgia, and a rare emotional intensity not often found in Disney comics.

What else does the volume include:

Besides the eponymous story, the volume covers the production period of Barks around 1953 and contains:

  • Classic Adventures: Stories such as "Easter Rally" and "Blind Duel".

  • Supporting Characters: Appearances by Cyrus Cogswell and the Beagle Boys, who at that time were beginning to establish themselves in the Duckburg universe.

  • Rare Material: Rich introductory texts, analyses of Barks' technique, and information on how the censorship of the time initially cut some scenes from the Klondike story (which have now been restored).

Why it stands out:

In this volume, Barks manages to give "soul" to Scrooge McDuck. He is no longer just a stingy millionaire, but a hero with a past, passions, and memories.
