Under the remarkable new leadership, the Wildwood Lodge embarks on a campaign of violence. Shocked, the players and their allies form a new enclave in exile to oppose this new regime. As they recruit new friends to their cause, the characters must deny the Wildwood Lodge a powerful relic crafted by the rogue druid Ghorus, all while investigating the strange, primal magic that the Wildwood Lodge has uncovered.

To prevail, the characters must locate one of the most dangerous inhabitants of the Verduran Forest and convince her to aid their cause or ensure that she cannot help their enemy. "Severed at the Root" is a Pathfinder adventure themed around the wilderness for four 8th-level characters. The adventure continues the Wardens of Wildwood Adventure Path, a tri-monthly campaign in which a group of adventurers navigates a difficult balance between idyllic wilderness, a hungry nation, and the primal forces beyond the natural world.
