Nintendo characters can now come to life with many new features as amiibo figures. These are interactive figures that have the ability to communicate with games specifically designed for amiibo, simply by tapping them on the Wii U GamePad. Amiibo can interact with amiibo-compatible games, reading data from the games and saving data onto the figure.

In Super Smash Bros for Wii U, players can fight with or against their amiibo figures, simultaneously leveling up their stats. They can then take them to another Wii U console and show how they have trained and customized their own amiibo figures.

Different amiibo-compatible games will use amiibo in various ways. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to utilize amiibo. Games like Mario Party 10, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Yoshi's Woolly World are also expected to support amiibo.
