Its maximum aperture of f/1.4 allows for shooting in low-light conditions and helps separate the subject from the background. It features an all-metal construction and manual focusing via a geared ring.

The optical design comprises seven elements in six groups, including two high-refractive-index elements to correct chromatic and geometric aberrations. The 12-blade aperture helps produce smooth bokeh, while the focus and aperture rings are compatible with most follow-focus systems.
