In the book "Doxothymies," physicist and doctor of the Medical School at the University of Crete Stelios Kerassidis explores the world of desires as emotional expressions and interwoven cognitive processes.
He attempts to construct a coherent theory for these, combining the findings of the positive sciences with fundamental philosophical assumptions and references to everyday experience. Introducing new terms where necessity demands and constantly referring to a broad bibliography, the author surveys the spectrum of desires that govern us while simultaneously investigating their genealogy and enigmatic nature.
"We do science to escape the chains of our own desires, which continuously change," noted Einstein. The author invites us to wonder with him: "Can we escape these chains by understanding desires rather than diverting attention elsewhere? Can we make the desires themselves a science?"
The edition is prefaced by Dr. Eva Karageorgi, an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and a scientific collaborator at the University of Athens.
