Capabilities

The Shelly BLU door/window sensor is a Bluetooth sensor designed to instantly detect the opening or closing of doors and windows, triggering corresponding home automation scenarios. It features built-in sensors that allow it to measure the inclination angle of a tilting and rotating window/door, as well as the ambient brightness (LUX). It operates via Bluetooth (protocol 4.2), offering instant response (less than 100ms) and long battery life.

Platforms and Automation Scenarios

The sensor operates with a 3 V CR2032 battery (included) and its lifespan can reach up to 5 years, depending on daily use. To be used with the Shelly Smart Control app and integrated into the wider Shelly ecosystem, a Gateway is required. Compatible Gateways are the Shelly BLU Gateway or any Shelly Plus, Pro, or Gen3 device (excluding sensors). The sensor also supports the BTHome protocol and can be integrated into various platforms and automation scenarios.

With 2 Operating Modes

The Shelly BLU Door/Window has two main operating modes: Regular mode and Beacon mode. In Regular mode, the device transmits the current open/closed status, lighting, and battery status every time the state changes (opening or closing). If a change in tilt angle is detected, the new value is transmitted every 8 seconds. In Beacon mode, the device transmits the status, lighting, and battery every 30 seconds, although this may significantly reduce battery life.

Security, Energy Efficiency & Comfort

The applications of the sensor are multiple, covering home security, energy efficiency, and comfort. For security, it can notify users in case of unwanted opening and activate other protection systems (e.g., alarms). Regarding energy efficiency, it can automate the deactivation of heating or cooling when a window is open. For comfort, it can automatically turn on the lights when the front door opens. The device also supports scripting on Shelly Plus and Pro devices for advanced automations.

Compact and Discreet Design

The sensor stands out for its compact and discreet design, which allows it to blend seamlessly into any space, even to be installed invisibly within the window frame. The physical dimensions of the sensor unit are 35x35x7 mm and of the magnet 35x12x7 mm. It is available in white, black, and brown colors. Installation is simple, while the device includes a button for pairing with other Bluetooth devices (press and hold for 10 seconds) or for factory reset (press and hold for 30 seconds, only shortly after inserting the battery).
