The Boulton Paul Defiant is a night fighter that was manufactured in 1937. The RAF ordered a twin-seat fighter with no fixed armament, but with powerful armament in the form of paired machine guns in a 360° rotating turret. Such an armed aircraft would be suitable for attacking enemy bombers from below, that is, the least protected part.

In the autumn of 1941, the Defiant Mk IA version appeared, which was equipped with AI Mk 4 radar and used as a night fighter. From February 1941, the Defiant Mk II version was released, which differs with a stronger engine and the use of more modern AI Mk 6 radar.
