“The only thing I ever wanted was to be with you.”

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would want nothing more than to not resemble each other at all. Morgan is determined to prevent Clara from making the same mistakes she did: getting pregnant and marrying too young. To raise her, she had to put her dreams aside and wouldn’t want the same to happen to her daughter. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She finds her life boring and predictable, lacking any spontaneity.

Coexisting and communicating most of the time seems impossible. The only person who can bring peace between them is Chris – Morgan's husband, Clara's father, and the man who keeps their family united.

Everything will come crashing down when Chris suffers a tragic accident. The trauma for the two women is unimaginable, as this event will drastically change their lives and not just…

As they try to recover and return to their daily lives, Morgan will find solace in the last person she ever imagined, and Clara will turn to the boy she has been forbidden to see. Each passing day, new secrets and misunderstandings pull them further apart, until the chasm between them seems insurmountable.

A touching story by Colleen Hoover about family, loss, and forbidden loves.

  • "Regretting You" was a book that kept me hooked from beginning to end. The story is addictive, fast-paced, and filled with intense emotional moments that keep you in suspense. However, at some points I felt the plot had gaps and plot holes; there were moments when the events didn’t fully make sense or seemed a bit exaggerated. This kept me from loving it as much as I expected, despite my strong involvement with the characters.

The story mainly focuses on the mother-daughter relationship, following the dynamic between Jana and May as a tragic loss turns their world upside down. Through this relationship, secrets, conflicts, and the need for forgiveness and understanding come to the surface, giving depth to the characters and the narrative. Hoover handles family and romantic themes well, but the small inconsistencies and plot gaps slightly affect the overall experience.

Despite the plot holes, the book reads incredibly quickly and the reading experience is addictive—you don’t want to put it down until it’s finished. The movie that’s out now personally excites me, because it might portray better some parts that felt confusing in the book. If you love emotional dramas with powerful moments and relationships that touch the heart, it’s worth reading, but with a slightly critical eye on the plot holes.
