Description

Every day is different at the Hotel of Emotions, because emotions vary... Some are big, some are small, some are lonely, and others come with their friends. Here lives Anger, who shouts loudly and shakes the entire room. Sadness, who speaks softly and floods the bathroom with her tears. Gratitude, who never asks for anything. Confidence, which helps us overcome difficulties. And when Love arrives, the hotel fills with light and laughter. However, whatever emotion visits the hotel, it is just passing through. Because emotions are always traveling, to many different hotels all over the world... A unique book for children to explore the world of emotions.

  • Theme: Emotional development, Understanding emotions
  • Tone: Tender, poetic, and full of empathy
  • Age: 5–8 years old

Suitable for:

It is a wonderful book to start a discussion with children about how they feel, especially during times when they experience intense or "difficult" emotions. It is also aimed at parents and educators who want to enhance children's emotional intelligence and self-awareness.

Why This Book Is Special:

This book stands out for its original representation of emotions as guests in a hotel, making the idea of coexisting with many different feelings accessible to children. Through the personification of joy, sadness, anger, and more, the book emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and acceptance of all emotions, even the difficult ones. It delivers a powerful message of self-care, which was recognized by its inclusion in the Golden List of Elniplex for 2025.

Book with a hard cover and 40 pages. The illustration plays a dominant role and is the work of the author herself, Lidia Brankovic, with her characteristic style that combines simple lines and collage elements. The language is simple, direct, and poetic.

Suggestions for use by parents or educators:

  • An ideal tool to start a discussion in the classroom or at home about emotions and how to manage them with understanding.
  • Helps children name and better understand what they feel, enhancing empathy and self-awareness.

With the book as a starting point, you can:

  • Discuss: The various guest-emotions. What do they look like? What do they do? How do we treat them?
  • Ask the child: Which guest-emotion did you like the most? How do you feel today? Which "guests" are in your own "hotel"? How can we take care of all our emotions?
  • Draw: How do you imagine joy, sadness, anger, or fear?

Read an Excerpt

"Sometimes you feel many different things at the same time. Like having an entire hotel full of guests inside you!

You may feel joy jumping up and down on the bed or anger knocking on the door to come in or sadness sitting quietly in a corner."

A few words about the creator, Lidia Brankovic:

Amazing book with wonderful illustrations, I read it as an adult and I liked it very much. I got it for a 4-year-old and it is a bit more complex. Prefer it for slightly older ages.

Very good, 2.5 years old and the little one liked it a lot. It provides a first contact with emotions, so that he can gradually start to recognize them. At this age, the simpler ones, joy, sadness, etc. At older ages, it might be even more interesting.

Personally, I only didn't like the paper that much, but of course I won't pay attention to that because the book is excellent.
Now, as for the illustration, what can I say, it depends on the age and what each child likes and sees.
It is very important for children to recognize emotions and it really helps. We recently got the workshop (the photos are from that) so that the little one can draw and understand better.

I wonder how it is possible for 4-year-old children to be scared by the book. Really. The book is not scary at all. It is a very beautiful and inventive depiction of the multitude of emotions a person can feel and how they manage them, as all are acceptable and normal. It has wonderful illustrations, good quality paper, and it became one of our new favorite books. They read it in kindergarten and my daughter asked to buy it so we could read it at home as well.

Very scary, because it contains extremely bizarre figures. The 4-year-old child hid it so as not to read it again. It causes psychological effects. In any case, useless, because it does not analyze feelings at all, it serves no purpose. A lot of marketing for nothing

To those who consider the book "dark" for children, I'm sorry but life is not only about joy and hope. People experience more dystopian feelings daily than utopian ones. Everything is part of life and children need to learn to manage and express them. That is the purpose of this book and the purchase fully served its purpose! The children loved it and were very interested in continuing the reading. Let me remind you that all fairy tales have sinister figures who harbor hatred and jealousy towards the heroes. In some cases, the motive is vanity, such as wanting to remain queen after eliminating the princess, heir to the throne and rightful owner of the immense fortune. All tales have something of raw violence, discrimination, intolerance, and a host of dark emotions. Yet we comfortably read them to our children from infancy... So it's hypocrisy to accuse other books for such reasons

A book overall dark, I would say, without beautiful and cheerful illustrations, dominated by black and generally dark colors. The emotions do not touch on them in as understandable a way as I would like, and they do not delve into them as they should. There are 2 or 3 figures a bit scary for a 4-year-old child, like the figure of anger, which is a black figure with an ugly expression and a flaming head. I made a mistake relying on the comments and got it with closed eyes; I would have chosen something else instead. From me, it's a no

Good but it is aimed at older ages. The images, however, are very scary and discouraged the child (4 years old) from wanting to read it again. We will see in the future if we approach it again.

A book for young and old. How vividly the emotions are described, you feel them one by one as you read the book!

The best book, it helps tremendously the little ones, not to mention the big ones, to understand emotions.

Amazing book for kids 6+.. unfortunately, I got it without seeing the recommended age and my little one (3yrs) got confused by the story.. It will stay in the library for when the time comes! It's worth buying!

  • Wonderful book and I think my 3-year-old daughter happily chooses it, and every time we read it, she notices something different. I highly recommend it as top in its category.

Very nice fairy tale. Very beautiful description of emotions. Very poor illustration. I would say terrifying.. Dark.. Not for children.

Very nice, but my kids (3 years old and 6) didn't hold onto it particularly well. We read it twice and they got bored.

A book that talks about many emotions, many more than usual. For a "worked on" 4-year-old child, it was a bit difficult to understand everything. It definitely needs explanation and discussion

Unique and very special book about emotions.
The author explains to us in a very entertaining way the importance of feeling all emotions, not locking them away, and doing what you can to learn what they need.

A wonderful book for children to learn about emotions, accept them, and recognize them in order to express them. My 6-year-old loves it very much.

  • Amazing book with wonderful illustrations, I read it as an adult and I liked it very much. I got it for a 4-year-old and it is a bit more complex. Prefer it for slightly older ages.

  • Very good, 2.5 years old and the little one liked it a lot. It provides a first contact with emotions, so that he can gradually start to recognize them. At this age, the simpler ones, joy, sadness, etc. At older ages, it might be even more interesting.

  • Personally, I only didn't like the paper that much, but of course I won't pay attention to that because the book is excellent.
Now, as for the illustration, what can I say, it depends on the age and what each child likes and sees.
It is very important for children to recognize emotions and it really helps. We recently got the workshop (the photos are from that) so that the little one can draw and understand better.
