As I learned more and gained a deeper understanding of beer, I was able to combine flavors with ingredients and brewing processes, and along the way, I also managed to connect flavors with a broader perception of geographical origin, history, and the cultures that consumed beer.
As I continued to study flavors, participate as a judge in beer competitions, and organize seminars around beer, it became clear how demanding understanding and identifying flavors can be, and how much others also struggled. I realized it was a matter of vocabulary and confidence. We need to know which words to use and how to use them in the context of beer, and also have the confidence to use them.
With this book, I hope to offer you the vocabulary and confidence to enjoy the flavors of beer, while also exploring in greater detail many of the most flavorful beers from around the world. This book is an approach to beer, with flavor as its central focus.
