Watchfulness is attention to thoughts, actions, and movements. When one day you pay attention, observe yourself, and examine your behavior, the next day you will be more careful. The entire foundation is attention.

That is why you see how careful the holy Fathers were! Why are they called Hesychast Fathers? Hesychast Fathers means careful Fathers. They watched themselves and did inner work. They observed their thoughts and remained in constant spiritual vigilance.

Just as someone who prays at night and their mind is on God, so during the day they try not to forget and not let their mind stray from God. If they do not pay attention during the day, they gather rubbish, and then try to get rid of it! Is it easy? One moment of carelessness makes prayer difficult, when they try to concentrate!
