The species Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary), commonly known as rosemary, belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It is also known as lamari and rosmarino. It is a Mediterranean herb that grows in temperate regions of Europe and America.

It thrives in areas with mild, warm, and even cool climates, preferring sunny locations.

Historical references:

  • Elixir of youth and a gift from the goddess Aphrodite.
  • In Ancient Greece, students wore wreaths made of rosemary during exams.
  • The Egyptians used it in purification ceremonies and as a preservative during mummification.
  • According to Dioscorides, it was an excellent tonic and antispasmodic.
  • In Medieval Europe, it was believed that burning the plant dispelled evil spirits.
