Description

The author Ella Hickson made her artistic mark with her debut play, Eight, which transitioned from the student theater in Edinburgh to the West End and then to New York while she was just in her early twenties. She has continued to evolve with a series of dramatic performances that clash between romance and the reality of life as a young person in Britain.

Eight (Edinburgh, 2008), this stunning debut success, is included here: a portrait of society with monologues, 'an interactive Talking Heads for 21st-century youth' (Independent).

Additionally, it includes Hot Mess (Edinburgh, 2010), a dark and lyrical story about twins born with only one heart, and Precious Little Talent (Edinburgh, 2009; West End, 2011), concerning two young graduates in a world that has betrayed them.

In Boys (HighTide Festival, Nuffield Theatre Southampton and Soho Theatre, 2012), the class of 2011 faces a tough transition to adulthood in a play that 'dynamically captures the mood of a generation' (Independent).

The volume also contains an introduction by the author and two short plays: the unpublished PMQ, part of the government's season at Theatre503, London, in 2010, and Gift, which first appeared in the immersive theater production Decade in 2011.
