I do not own the flash drive, but one (used in a CAR audio system) fell into my hands, and because of this, I took some measurements on a "simple" laptop (old i3 level, 4GB RAM) from four years ago with USB2 (I do not have USB3) and Windows 10. For the test, large files were used, such as a movie of about 1GB from the laptop to the flash drive and vice versa, as well as relatively small files like MP3s, since this flash drive is used for that.
- Write speed for continuous large files. The first 250MB are written at 23MB/sec (impressive). In fact, the flash drive can be safely removed immediately after writing the file, which indicates that the speed is real. If the file is larger, the remaining MB are copied at a fluctuating speed close to 7.5MB/sec (fluctuating but around there). This is for those who get confused with reviews that sometimes label it fast and other times slow. For the first 250MB, it is fast. For the rest, not (and many flash drives and SD cards do the same, being slow after the first 200-250MB). When copying relatively small files (4MB/file), similar things apply. If there are few (e.g., a few MP3s), they are copied at 14MB/sec and then drop to a fluctuating lower write speed at, let's say, an average of 7MB/sec.
- Read speed. 32MB/sec on USB2 (which is about the max I get on my laptop).
On USB3, do not expect much better write speeds, especially after 250MB (they will be a bit better), but expect better read speeds.
It is used in a car audio system (CAR Audio pioneer USB MP3) and does not heat up particularly, so I think it will not create a problem. The test was done in June during summer. The same applies to a computer. Compared to an older similar USB-OTG from the same company, which is also USB2 (the one with the transparent cap), this USB3 does not heat up noticeably (one would expect the opposite). The USB2 gets hot in front of it.
The OTG (back connector) is a useful feature for phones and tablets that support it (do not expect it to connect to all phones, and it is not the flash drive's fault). Be careful, newer phones are starting to have USB-Type C, so this does not work for them (the OTG connector is micro USB).
As for durability, I do not know since the flash drive is new, but anyway, given how things have become with flash memory, we should never keep our data on a single medium. It always requires at least 2 copies ("backup" is what it's called...).
Finally, to avoid losing it (a very serious risk with small flash drives), hang some "tail," meaning a long string (twine) or a keychain/key tag in a bright color. It helps to find it when the flash drive is not meant to be on your keys (which I think it shouldn't be on keys since the OTG port or the cap risks breaking on keys).
Edit 10/27/2017: the USB3 flash drive that fell into my hands has "burned out" and no longer works. Just like that, without much use. It broke within the warranty period (it didn’t even last a year), so at least they will replace it. The similar USB2 predecessor that I have (which does heat up) still works after years, although I would say I use it very little, so it doesn’t say much that it "lives" on.
Δεν είμαι κάτοχος του φλασακίου αλλά έπεσε στα χέρια μου ένα (που χρησιμοποιείται σε CAR audio σύστημα) και με αφορμή αυτό του έκανα μερικές μετρήσεις σε "απλό" laptop (επιπέδου i3 παλαιού, 4gb ram) τετραετίας με usb2 (δεν διαθέτω usb 3) και windows 10. Για το test χρησιμοποιήθηκε μεγάλα αρχεία όπως μία ταινία 1gb περίπου από το laptop στο flash drive και το ανάποδο, αλλά και σχετικά μικρά όπως mp3 καθώς για αυτό χρησιμοποιείται το φλασάκι αυτό.
- Write speed συνεχής μεγάλου αρχείου. Τα πρώτα 250mb γράφονται με 23mb/sec (εντυπωσιακό). Μάλιστα το flashάκι μπορεί να αποσυνδεθεί άμεσα μετά την εγγραφή του αρχείου που θα πει η ταχύτητα είναι πραγματική. Αν το αρχείο είναι μεγαλύτερο τα υπόλοιπα mb αντιγράφονται με κυμαινόμενη ταχύτητα κοντά στο 7,5mb/sec (κυμαινόμενη αλλά πάνω κάτω εκεί). Αυτό για όσους μπερδεύονται με με reviews που άλλα το βγάζουν γρήγορο και άλλα αργό. Στα πρώρα 250mb είναι γρήγορο. Στα υπόλοιπα όχι (και το κάνουν πολλά φλασάκια και sd κάρτες το ίδιο να είναι αργά μετά τα πρώτα 200-250mb). Σε αντιγραφή σχετικά μικρών αρχείων (4mb/file) ισχύουν παρόμοια πράγματα. Αν είναι λίγα (πχ μερικά mp3) αντιγράφονται με 14mb/sec και μετά πέφτει σε κυμαινόμενη χαμηλότερη εγγραφή στα ας πούμε μέση ταχύτητα 7mb/sec.
- Read speed. 32mb/sec σε usb 2 (που είναι περίπου και το max που πιάνω στο laptop μου).
Σε usb 3 μην περιμένετε πολύ καλύτερες εγγραφές ειδικά μετά τα 250mb (θα είναι βέβαια λίγο καλύτερες) αλλά να περιμένετε καλύτερες ταχύτητες ανάγνωσης.
Χρησιμοποιείται σε ηχοσύστημα αυτοκινήτου (CAR Audio pioneer usb mp3) και δεν ζεσταίνεται ιδιαίτερα οπότε νομίζω δεν θα δημιουργήσει πρόβλημα. Το τεστ έγινε καλοκαίρι Ιούνιο μήνα. Το ίδιο ισχύει και για υπολογιστή. Σε σύγκριση με όμοιου παλαιότερο usb-otg της ίδιας εταιρίας που μάλιστα είναι και usb2 (αυτό με διάφανο καπάκι) αυτό εδώ το usb 3 δεν ζεσταίνεται αισθητά (θα περίμενε κανείς το ανάποδο). Το usb2 ζεματάει μπροστά του.
To otg (πίσω βύσμα) είναι χρήσιμο χαρακτηριστικό για όσα τηλέφωνα tablet το υποστηρίζουν (μην περιμένετε να συνδεθεί σε όλα τα τηλέφωνα και δεν φταίει το φλασάκι). Προσοχή τα νεότερα τηλέφωνα αρχίζουν και έχουν usb-type C οπότε αυτό δεν κάνει για αυτά (είναι micro usb το otg βύσμα του).
Για αντοχή δεν ξέρω καθώς είναι νέο το φλασάκι αλλά όπως και να έχει όπως έχουν γίνει τα πράγματα με τις flash μνήμες ποτέ δεν πρέπει να έχουμε τα δεδομένα μας σε ένα μόνο μέσο. Θέλει πάντα σε τουλάχιστον 2 μεριές ("backup" λέγεται..).
Τέλος για να μην το χάνετε (πολύ σοβαρός κίνδυνος στα μικρά φλασάκια) κρεμάστε κάποια "ουρά" δλδ κάποιο μακρύ σκοινάκι (σπάγκο) ή κάποιο μπρελόκ/ key tag σε έντονο χρώμα. Βοηθάει να το βρίσκεις όταν το φλασάκι δεν προορίζεται να είναι στα κλειδιά σας (που νομίζω δεν κάνει να είναι σε κλειδιά το συγκεκριμένο καθώς η otg θύρα ή και το καπάκι κινδυνεύουν να σπάσουν πάνω σε κλειδιά).
Edit 27/10/2017: το φλασάκι που έπεσε στα χέρια μου usb3 έμαθα ότι "κάηκε" και πλέον δεν λειτουργεί. Έτσι ξαφνικά χωρίς πολύ χρήση. Εντός εγγύησης το έπαθε (δεν έβγαλε ούτε χρόνο) οπότε τουλάχιστον θα του το αντικαταστήσουν. Το όμοιο του/πρόγωνος usb2 που έχω (και ζεσταίνεται) λειτουργεί ακόμα μετά από χρόνια αν και το χρησιμοποιώ θα έλεγα πολύ λίγο οπότε δε λέει και πολλά το ότι "ζει" ακόμα.
