Wild chervil, also known as wild parsley, is a perennial creeping plant with many long roots, reaching a height of 30cm. It is found in most parts of Europe and Asia and is often referred to as a field weed. However, this plant has proven to offer significant health benefits.

Therapeutic Properties

The therapeutic properties of wild chervil have been known since the time of Dioscorides in the 1st century AD. Wild chervil is known for the relief it provides for symptoms related to prostate issues. It is used as an antiseptic for the urinary system in cases of cystitis and urethritis, as well as for kidney problems. It is a very good diuretic and is used to expel stones from the kidneys and gallbladder. It also reduces cholesterol levels.

Wild chervil contains a mucilaginous substance, tritisin (fructosan) at 8%, inositol, mannitol, vitamins A and B, vanillin glycoside, saponin, and potassium silicate. For therapeutic purposes, the leaves and primarily the root are used as an infusion. It is a remedy for organic diseases of the chest and stomach, while washes and compresses with wild chervil infusion relieve pain from rheumatism, arthritis, and skin diseases.

  • 1 tablespoon of wild chervil is steeped with 1 cup of boiling water in a covered container.
