The ground is covered in snow, the horizon a dark line of mountains; low milky clouds hide the sky. In the foreground, a vague form, a strange suspended mass of vibrant colors—red, blue, and yellow—moves as it fills with air. In less than a minute, a popular amusement attraction appears: an inflatable, round form, awkward and friendly, shaped like a double slide or trampoline, often seen in playgrounds, fairs, and village gatherings. Along with other inflatable structures of a similar nature—a thick castle with a dragon, a soccer field—the slide is part of the strangely created landscape that Stefano Cerio offers in his photo series Aquila, taken in Abruzzo at different times of the year and in particularly impressive landscapes near L’Aquila, in the plains of Campo Felice, Campo Imperatore, and Pescasseroli.
