Every corner of Grayson's childhood bedroom was covered with pictures of airplanes and every surface with models. Imagination dominated his life, in a world of battles determined by his teddy bear, Alan Measles. He grew up and in 2003, as a recognized ceramicist, he received the Turner Prize as his alter-ego Claire, wearing his best dress, with a ribbon in his hair. Now he tells his story, beautifully captured by his friend, writer Wendy Jones. His early childhood in Chelmsford, Essex is a rural Eden abruptly ended by the arrival of his stepfather, leading to a constant switch between his parents' homes and between men's and women's clothes. However, as Grayson enters art school and discovers the world of London squats and New Romanticism, he begins to find himself. Finally, he emerges as a ceramicist and transsexual.
