Description

Embark on a grand adventure in Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, and meet its brave ruler, King Dáin Ironfoot. Start from the Grey Havens, home of the esteemed Círdan the Shipwright, the oldest of the Elves. Lead your legions from Rhûn, or attack the Shire with the powerful Men of Dunland.

Fire and Swords is the new expansion for War of the Ring – The Card Game, created by the ingenious Ian Brody. This expansion broadens the game's horizons by introducing new battle zones for the "War in the North," along with new factions and a new type of location known as Skirmishes, inhabited by various characters from the Lord of the Rings saga.

Within Fire and Swords, you will discover a plethora of content, including 60 faction cards, 9 additional paths, and 9 new battle zones. Additionally, explore 13 skirmishes, representing smaller settlements and fortifications, such as the Fords of Isen and Bree. Three new factions join the fray: the brave Northmen fighting for the Free Peoples, along with the powerful Easterlings and the cunning Ruffians allied with the Shadow.

This expansion supports up to six players, with customizable scenarios tailored for smaller groups. Additionally, experience the solo/cooperative gameplay serenity with all-new Shadow cards, perfectly integrated with the already available Against the Shadow expansion for those seeking solo adventures.

This is not a complete game. A copy of War of the Ring – The Card Game is required to play.

In general, the cards are nice, as is the addition of skirmishes, which, although they don't give victory points, provide a bonus to whichever side wins them and also activate a battleground.

The two-player mode is a bit challenging since you have to draw from 3 decks and keep separate cycle and elimination piles for each, but it still has a lot of depth this way.

Of course, there's also the epic duel where all the cards simply go into the Free Peoples and Shadow decks respectively, which significantly increases the luck factor, but it's epic and there's also an official way released by the game's designer to make it more controlled.

The 6-player mode, although I didn't expect it, turns out really nice, but it has one drawback: all players need to know the game, otherwise it takes way too long. If they do know it, it lasts up to about 3 hours for that number of players.

The 4-player mode here is a bit strange, as 2 players (1 from each side) will have to manage 2 decks and 2 hands. Okay, it's playable, but still not the best for players who play once per round.

Overall, it's worth it if you like the base game and the lore; it brings out tension and excitement at many moments.

I'm looking forward to the next expansion, "Hope & Despair," which adds the story cards, to be released.
