Description

Description

First written as a response to a JACT survey of over 100 schools, and now supported by the OCR, this educational book has become a standard resource for students in the UK and for readers around the world seeking a clear and detailed introduction to the language of ancient Greeks. Revised throughout and enhanced with color artworks and textual features, this edition supports the new OCR specification for Ancient Greek language.

Part 1 covers the basics, while Part 2 introduces a broader range of grammatical forms and constructions, with a vocabulary of 435 words and reading material from Socrates and the Sophists to the world of myth, and finally to extensive passages of slightly adapted Herodotus. Exercises, exam topics, and revision suggestions for the GCSE complete Part 2, which includes a reference covering the entire course. Authored by a long-term teacher and examiner, this two-part course is based on experience of what students find difficult, focusing on essentials and understanding of principles both in grammar and syntax: small irregularities are deferred and downplayed to reduce the need for memorization. Its aim is to be user-friendly, while also providing students with a solid foundation for further study.
