In the Jìn bù series, there are two student books, one for each year. Each book includes a variety of activities so that the lessons can be tailored to different abilities. Each chapter of the student book includes:

• activities that cover all four language skills on every page
• many illustrations and photographs to engage students
• grammar tips on every page for understanding key concepts
• writing exercises that help with mastering the characters
• a "Character Exploration" section to show students how the radical forms relate to their meanings, aiding them in memorization
• a section exploring Chinese culture
