I wasn't well informed, and from what I read in various forums afterward, cards of this type that have a date on them (in this case 2024) have a digital "expiration date" in the firmware and require some digging to restore when the "lock" appears. It's still early for me to verify this, but a similar one I bought several years ago didn't have this, and I think it's worth looking into, especially if someone isn't very familiar with digital things. For now, it works perfectly!
