I couldn't go on like this... Without an exit, without a future, with psychological intimidation gnawing at me.

Livio presents a paper on the burning of books by the Nazis during World War II. He refers to Magnus Hirschfeld, a German-Jewish doctor who fought for gender equality and the rights of homosexuals. For Livio, it is more than just a simple presentation; it is a claim, a confession. However, it is met with awkwardness, indifference, and even hostility.

Since then, he has been missing. No one knows what has become of him... In the aftermath of his disappearance, all the difficult questions resonate. What if this flight was the ultimate expression of courage?

A small excerpt from the book:

As soon as Livio finished his presentation, I felt humiliated listening to him speak, as if nothing was happening, about Magnus Hirschfeld's struggle to abolish paragraph 175 of the German Penal Code, which punished homosexuality. To speak in front of me, who was in love with him and everyone knew it. And let me add that they considered me Livio's little girlfriend, so you understand. I was overcome with a tremor. As time passed and to the extent that I understood, everything around me began to spin backward, and suddenly I saw it all again before my eyes. It was the strangest experience of my adolescence. Rather awkward, I would say. Like when my dad left.

Even though Livio had never lied to me, I felt deceived. He had simply omitted it because he couldn't confide in me. He was different, and there is no doubt he had used that specific way to put an end to the misunderstanding. He had asked Magnus Hirschfeld to save him. For Hirschfeld, Livio had found the right words, not for himself.
