When people, whether as individual individuals or as societies, go through a crisis, that is, when the way they live is not working well, the need for change arises. The changes proposed in these cases belong to three categories:
a) General, external, and impersonal changes. That is, social, political, or cultural.
b) External, but personal changes.
c) Personal and internal changes.
The general, external, and impersonal changes are proposed by various ideologies. The Bible suggests changes from the last two categories. If there is any tension between political ideologies and the Christian tradition, it consists precisely in this: Political ideologies believe that people change when social structures change, while the Christian tradition holds the belief that only changed, that is, transformed individuals, can bring about the structural changes that will lead to the improvement of society.
