Description & Specifications

This book is aimed at students of Life Sciences and its purpose is to assist in the understanding of the topics that connect fundamental Physics with modern Biology and Medical Sciences.

Physics is an integral part of almost all fields of modern Life Sciences, both concerning the experimental techniques they apply and the basic understanding of the structure and function of living organisms.

Physics for Life Sciences is not just another university Physics textbook with simpler mathematics than those aimed at engineers, with the addition of some examples from Biology and Medicine. It has been designed with absolute adherence to the needs and interests of Life Sciences students, and an effort has been made to ensure that its text is authentic and appealing for this purpose.

Although the author covers most of the usual introductory topics in Physics following a somewhat traditional sequence, he places significant emphasis and detail on principles and applications that have a special relation to Life Sciences.

The mathematics used in the main body of the text and required for solving problems at the end of each chapter are limited to algebra and trigonometry. However, in some cases, key relationships are derived using calculus in an appendix for readers who are interested.

- The book is oriented towards the requirements of curricula related to Life Sciences.

- The presentation of Physics topics is adapted to fully include issues of Biology, Biophysics, and Medical techniques.

- There is rich illustration with 900 photographs and diagrams, most in color, to fully clarify the concepts and problems examined.

- Each chapter is accompanied by a summary, open-ended questions, multiple-choice questions, and quantitative problems.
