These women of Mourganas, in foreign lands, without their husbands, silently endure their fate with calm but steady dignity, and when they return to Greece, they do not scream, they do not take to the streets, they do not raise their fists, all hatred for others, even for those who violently took them away from their homeland and their homes.
The "depth" of the child cities, I would say, was transparent. It was the survival and protection of underage children, whom the harsh conditions of the time did not allow to survive in their homes.
Therefore, I believe that the "murky bottom" lies in obsessions, prejudices, and biases. In enlisting in dogmatic perceptions and even in invented situations or heavy-handed expressions.
Even a mass demonstration of Greek hostages took place in the Hungarian Parliament in November 1953, for the hostages of the guerrillas-communists to express their desire to return to Greece.
Arriving in Igoumenitsa, an elderly woman from our village, Lea Thesprotia, moved that she returned to Greece after 6 years of captivity, enthusiastically shouted in favor of then Prime Minister Alexandros Papagos. However, she confused Papagos with the parrot. Long live the Parrot!
