We don't know if Nikos Dimou won the lottery of poetry - but he has certainly lost the ticket of recognition. While his appearance was greeted with enthusiasm by critics, it seems that he lost his "signature" afterward.
He appeared in the literary world in 1953, with the out-of-print poetry collection "Imery", at the age of just eighteen. In 1965, the "23 Poems" were printed - also in a private edition. Until 1972, poetry monopolized his writing activity.
His first "official" poetry collection, titled "Absences," was published by Ikaros in 1973 - including some poems from the previous 23. Another collection, "Poems 74 - 76" (Athens 1976), was also published by Ikaros. And the next year (1977), "The Book of Cats" in its first form was published by Ermia.
