After many years of obscurity or marginalization, the topic of -non-heterosexual- sexuality has begun to emerge as a subject of scientific study and social dialogue in both the Cypriot and Greek contexts.
Being aware of the immense importance of empirical documentation and data analysis regarding the experiences and needs of the LGBTQ community, the editors of this volume attempt to synthesize the findings from the first systematic studies on non-heterosexual forms of sexuality. They invite researchers, academics, and activists from Cyprus and Greece who are involved in or interested in research on sexuality issues to contribute to a multidisciplinary collection that includes approaches from various fields such as sociology, psychology, law, anthropology, and gender studies, taking into account the stratification of sexuality by class, race, gender, religion, age, from the perspective of queer theory and beyond.
The book can serve various purposes: The 12 carefully selected chapters and the conclusion provide useful information both to the reader who picks it up out of personal interest and to the researcher, scholar, and professional. They offer previously hard-to-find educational material in the Greek-speaking area for courses related to health and sexuality; they serve as a source of information for researchers and students in various fields such as sociology, psychology, and social sciences; and, as they contain information on current practices and movements in the field of LGBTQ rights, they serve as a reference point for professionals and activists in the field, as well as for lawmakers and policymakers interested in the restoration of LGBTQ rights as human rights.
