The "Gas Fuel Networks" in Greece are constructed and operated based on Greek Regulations that are founded on the standards of European Regulations (EN), Greek Regulations (ELOT), and other national Regulations of member states of the European Union, primarily however on German Regulations (DIN).
The main Regulations for the installation and operation of gas fuels are as follows:
- Regulation for steel distribution networks of natural gas with a design pressure of 19 bar (pertains to high and medium pressure networks).
- Regulation for polyethylene networks for the distribution of natural gas with a maximum operating pressure of 4 bar (pertains to low pressure networks).
- Operation and maintenance manual for medium-pressure natural gas distribution networks (design pressure 19 bar) and low-pressure natural gas distribution networks (maximum operating pressure 4 bar) (pertains to the operation and maintenance of medium and low-pressure networks).
- Regulation for the installation of gas supply pipes and meters with an operating pressure of up to 4 bar (pertains to the section of the network from the gas distribution pipeline to the consumer's installation meter).
- Regulation for internal natural gas installations with an operating pressure of up to 1 bar (pertains to networks of building installations).
- Technical regulation for gas installations in buildings (excluding industries - craft enterprises) (pertains to the networks and installations for the storage and distribution of liquefied gases).
According to the above Regulations, any reference to requirements according to the national standard ELOT and the German DIN is indicative, as the latest effective European standard (EN) or member state standard of the European Union applies. All the Regulations mentioned in the book as DIN are in effect and are also covered nominally by the Greek Regulations as they are compliant with the European standard.
The material of this book has been developed and illustrated according to the requirements of the common European Regulation for gas (EN 1775) and the requirements of the teaching of technological courses. This book is a teaching aid and does not replace the Regulations, which must always be consulted by any licensed gas technician.
Upon completion of the teaching of this book, students will be able to:
- distinguish the types of gas fuel networks
- know the materials and components of underground gas fuel networks
- understand the construction methods of underground networks
- know the materials and components of above-ground gas fuel networks
- understand the construction methods of above-ground networks
- know the necessary quality control tasks for network materials, and
- understand the control procedures for operations in gas fuel networks.
