Relentlessly satirical and incomparably lyrical, he praised above all, with this second attribute, love in all its manifestations, incarnations, and versions: sensual, romantic, idealistic, or transcendent, sometimes obscene and lustful, other times emotional and tender, occasionally specific and sometimes not, but always striking.
