The Tiger tanks were among the most feared war machines of World War II and gained almost legendary status; however, they never fulfilled their potential as they were not produced in sufficient numbers, and the state of the war had turned against the German army by the time they were introduced. They were often deployed in difficult conditions and in defensive battles, struggling against the odds. This was especially true in Western Europe during the Allied advance through France and into Germany, and the Tigers of this phase of the war are depicted by Dennis Oliver in the third volume of Tiger in the TankCraft series.
He uses archival photographs and extensively researched color illustrations to examine the Tiger tanks and the units of the German army and the heavy tank battalions of the Waffen-SS that fought to resist the assault of Allied tanks and air strikes in the final days of the conflict.
A central feature of his book showcases available models and aftermarket products, complemented by a gallery of beautifully constructed and painted models in various scales. Technical details as well as modifications introduced during production and in the field are examined, providing everything the modeler needs to recreate an accurate representation of these historic tanks.
