The Hermetica is a collection of theological-philosophical texts written in late antiquity, but are regarded as much older. The supposed author, Hermes Trismegistus, was thought to be a contemporary of Moses, and Hermetic philosophy was considered an ancient theology, parallel to the accepted wisdom of the Bible. This first English translation, based on reliable texts, along with the extensive introduction by Brian P. Copenhaver, provides a necessary resource for scholars of ancient philosophy and religion, early Christian writers, Renaissance literature and history, the history of science, and the tradition of mysticism in which the Hermetica have become canonical texts.
