Description

Every general aims to end a war by Christmas, and Montgomery, perhaps, saw his opportunity in a bold attack on the southern region of the Netherlands near the borders of a fiercely warring Reich. Still influenced by previous victories in the Normandy campaign, the plan to advance deep into enemy territory, with land and air forces, was daring and dangerous. Some would say that the farthest goal, the Bridge of Arnhem, was a bridge that proved too difficult.

Divided into two distinct elements, the market, the air assault, aimed to capture the vital bridges over several rivers and canals that were necessary. The garden, the land assault, would ensure that the bridges would soon become part of a wider allied angle. However, the planning and information were not as detailed as in previous operations and the Market Garden turned from a glorious adventure, with easily achievable goals, into an almost disastrous defeat.

This Battle Craft title also examines four pieces of military equipment that participated in these legendary battles. Representing the ground forces is the Triumph HW3 motorcycle, a staple of missions, and the unique German Sd.Kfz.2 Kettenkrad. These amazing machines were vital for maintaining the communication line. On the main route of the course, the modern British Cromwell fought bravely against the deadly Panther Ausf G.

The Quartermaster section provides the model maker with an insight into the development and operational use of the four chosen vehicles that participated in Market Garden. A selection of historical and contemporary photos and illustrations is included along with impressive builds that can offer the model maker subjects to ignite their creative appetite. It also includes details about modeling kits and additional materials that can really help the model maker bring military history to life.
