The volume Strapped for Cash: Needy Soldiers, Reluctant Authorities includes eight (8) studies on the issue of the payment of soldiers and mercenaries by issuing authorities during Greek and Roman antiquity.

The studies in the volume address the investigation of the use of currency in relation to the wages of the troops, as well as in connection with the daily needs of soldiers, both in times of peace and during military operations.

The lack of sources that discuss the payment of troops leads to interesting methodological approaches, the results of which illuminate aspects of the broader economic and military history.
