With the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, informal administrative bodies were formed at the local level, which the revolutionary forces used to address the new needs created by the state of war: recruitment, supply, and the direction of the revolutionary forces.
Among these forerunners of the national administration, the Peloponnesian Senate perhaps stands out the most. It emerged from necessity but is also an institution where the national effort for the unification of the state coexisted with the strong local, social, and political confrontations that arose from the very dynamics of the Revolution.
This distinct institution, which played a crucial role in the administrative organization of the rebel areas, in the organization of the logistics of the armed forces, and in the consolidation of the Struggle, was discussed at a conference organized by the Michail N. Stasinopoulos Foundation - VIOHALCO and the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation.
This volume hosts presentations from the conference, divided into two axes concerning the historical issue of the creation of the Peloponnesian Senate and the historical documents related to significant moments in its journey.
