The 21st century is the century of rapid changes at all levels, an era of institutional and traditional transformation. The university is changing, or at least, it must change, as society and the environment itself are changing. The management and administration standards of the university, which have been successfully implemented until now, are now proving to be inadequate.
A product of another era, with a strong economy and investments, was mainly based on state development. Today, when the state itself is threatened with financial strangulation and global recession has created a new reality, a new disease, with chronic trends of insufficient state resources, the university struggles to adapt, making structural changes, focusing more on its performance and the results of the educational process.
The institutional analysis of the university's functioning, and the application of organizational management models, aims to contribute to the discussion about its role, as the university lives, breathes, evolves, and has the ability to transform into a more intelligent entity, better adapted to its environment. In the natural world, diversity gives birth to evolution. This is the great lesson for the university that needs to change: a new culture of organization, which will in turn transform infrastructure - technological and social - for the benefit of the imagination and inventiveness of students, professors, and society. The "art" of creativity in the 21st century will be incorporated, with the help of technology, into a knowledge core in higher education, while student evaluation methods will reflect their ability to think outside the box.
Credibility and motivation are the hallmarks of this ability, in a democracy of social welfare, with vision and special care for the future inhabitants of the Earth and nature.
