Thirty-five years after the overthrow of A. Sahi, Iran is currently at a critical juncture. Despite being one of the world's largest producers of oil and natural gas, it faces serious economic problems due to international economic sanctions. At the same time, Iran is developing a controversial nuclear program, which poses an "existential threat" to Israel and a serious political problem for the Gulf petro-monarchies.
However, Iran, although politically isolated, exerts significant influence in the Middle East, such as in Lebanon, Palestine, war-torn Syria, and unstable Iraq. It is now evident that there can be no sustainable solution to the region's problems without Iranian involvement. Today, we witness a turning point in Tehran's foreign policy as well as Washington's, summarized by the initiation of a dialogue on the Iranian nuclear program.
This collective volume aims to enrich the existing poor Greek literature on this country and hopes to offer the reader a comprehensive view of the dilemmas, challenges, opportunities, and problems faced by a "middle" power like Iran.
