The subject of the book is to highlight the voice of children in the public discourse on child poverty and the prospect of including it in social reforms that will make sense for children and contribute to alleviating the impacts of poverty on their lives.
It places children at the center, aiming to showcase what it means to be a child, particularly a poor child, in modern societies. The theoretical part addresses the issue of the child within the main scientific approaches to poverty and social exclusion.
The research part presents a child-centered participatory qualitative study, in which children growing up in impoverished neighborhoods of Attica speak about the difficulties, exclusions, and dangers they experience, shedding light on dimensions that are not included in the dominant adult discourse on child poverty in our country.
The last chapter provides an overview of policies for children and child poverty in Europe and our country, attempting to connect the research findings with directions for child-centered social reforms.
The book is aimed at any researcher involved in participatory research, particularly with children, every social scientist studying childhood, child poverty, and social exclusion, public actors working to highlight the child's perspective in public discourse and social policies, and professionals working with children in education, health, child protection, and care.
Finally, it is addressed to organizations representing children and youth and civil society that advocate for children's rights and seek advocacy arguments for the inclusion and empowerment of their voice in the social fabric.
