The magazine's extensive texts of critique and reflection comprise two main thematic axes: a) the examination of Marxist aesthetics, as it was imposed by interwar and postwar party directives, and b) the need to reconsider the Modernism of the `30s Generation; this also includes the effort to define the identity of the poetic and critical discourse of the First Postwar Generation.
"Criticism" remained true to its initial commitments: it became a vehicle for the First Postwar Generation, highlighting the critical discourse of intellectuals, primarily poets-critics, of the early postwar period, and thus took the first step in their systematic expression; it did not become ideologically confined within the ideological and political disputes of the era, because it exercised control and criticism using democratic and pluralistic terms, which is why dialogue through the magazine's pages found fertile ground.
