Description

"Being Greek and not liking mythology is like being a newborn and not liking mother’s milk. Of course, being Greek and not knowing even one thousandth of your mythology is the most natural thing in this troubled place." Dimitris Kambourakis invites us on an exciting journey to the time when the gods resembled humans.

In those ancient years, in the temporal transition between prehistory and history, the first Greeks, half seafarers and half mountaineers, shaped their own idea about the origin of their world and the deities that governed it, creating what we today call Greek mythology, one of the most magnificent mythologies in the world.

In the form of small and easy-to-read snippets, which are thematically connected, the author of A Drop of History brings to life in A Drop of Mythology the spectacular pantheon of powerful beings who determined, with their weaknesses, quirks, loves, feuds, and wars, the destiny of humans in antiquity, starting with the big boss Zeus, who is the central figure of this first book.

And so we begin to understand the way those mysterious and astute ancient beings thought from whom we, as a nation, descend.

While the author tried to have an accessible approach mainly for younger people, it became so contrived that the book after a while becomes particularly tiring. So much effort is made to make the text light through (coarse and bordering on stereotypical and sexist) humor that it distracts you from the essence of the text. The effort was so much that, let someone correct me, the labors of Hercules went from twelve to ten at some point! Definitely far below my expectations
