Triggered by the dramatic decline in the populations of the grey partridge, area managers realized the destructive effects modern farming methods had on wildlife.
Through monitoring the area over the course of a year, the book shows how Peppering Farm is being rejuvenated: fields are divided with hedges and trees, beetle banks are created in various fields, the land is fertilized naturally instead of using artificial fertilizers, and many areas are returning to pastures. With detailed descriptions of nature, the image of a large area regaining its life is formed - remaining agricultural land, but with rapid growth of wildlife and biodiversity. And the partridges return.
