Description

In the short time that has elapsed between the first and the second edition of this book, developments have been rapid (and are ongoing). No matter how much ministers of Mitsotakis, such as Floridis, want to celebrate the end of the Left, a major wave of struggles is shaking the government of New Democracy. The social opposition is present and producing political results. The question is, what is the Left doing.

What, however, is the parliamentary left doing to respond to the challenge? It continues down a path of rightward adjustment, and this is evident in all its components.

The crisis within SYRIZA has reached enormous proportions. Thousands of left-wing activists are seeking an exit from a party that claimed to be a force of radical leftism but now has a leadership that boasts it can unite both the Federation of Greek Industries and the "homeowners" of the middle class.

The wave of departures is a current that seeks answers to what went wrong to the left. It belongs to the broader current of people who are clashing with the government of destruction, the current that has taken to the streets against governmental crimes and is offering mass solidarity to Palestine.

The crisis of SYRIZA has its roots in the contradiction between the leftist aspirations of the working class and youth and the rightward trajectory of its leadership. This was expressed in the past period with the leadership of Tsipras turning its back on the angry mobilizations of the people and was reflected in the election results. However, the election of Kasselakis to leadership has intensified the crisis.

We need a revolutionary Left, with the strategy of overthrowing capitalism and replacing it with workers' socialism that will spread workers' democracy everywhere, from politics to the economy. To dismantle the barbarities of capitalism amidst its crisis and to extinguish exploitation and oppression.
