The Spinosaurus with sail-back is one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs ever discovered, capable of reaching almost 15 meters in length!
The exact purpose of the characteristic spines that give it its name is unknown. Some scientists believe it was used for temperature regulation, while others consider it may have been used for display to make the dinosaur more attractive to potential mates.
History: The Spinosaurus was first discovered in 1915. However, it was known only from a few bones, so apart from the large spines on its back, it was not really known what the rest of it looked like. Later material discovered in the 1990s and early 2000s provided more information about this Cretaceous predator.
