The McDonnell-Douglas (Boeing) AH-64 helicopter was selected as the winner in the competition against Bell's YAH-63 in December 1976. The name Apache was attached to the helicopter in 1981.

This highly efficient machine features:

  • Four-blade rotors powered by two General Electric T700-701 turbine engines with a capacity of 1696 horsepower.
  • Residual wings equipped with conventional trailing edge flaps.
  • Tail plane that improves longitudinal steering.
  • Armored cabin with seats for two people, with the pilot's seat located at the back and the weapon operator/gunner in the front.
