Description

Since February 1951, when Psathas visited Cyprus as a correspondent for the newspaper Ta Nea, until his death, Cyprus remained a constant concern for him. He never stopped emphasizing that the Cyprus issue was the most important national matter.

In many ways, the Cyprus issue represented for Psathas the parallel history of Pontus. Two parts of Hellenism that vainly sought their national justice, without achieving it, both destroyed by partisan passions, personal ambitions, and Turkish brutality.

1974 was a reminder of the destruction he experienced as a child in Pontus, a devastation that deeply shook him. With his distinctive humor and unwavering, combative journalism, he frequently commented on the Cyprus issue for twenty-five years.

His articles covered all the major events of the period related to the Cyprus problem, with the concepts of patriotism, dignity, and resistance being of primary importance—values that also characterize his entire work.
