History: Like all gorilla species, lowland gorillas are unfortunately endangered. They suffer from the most common forms of population decimation, including poaching and deforestation, leading to habitat loss. However, gorillas are also susceptible to diseases like Ebola - previous outbreaks have pushed lowland gorillas from threatened to critically endangered. Nevertheless, numbers have started to stabilize and recover, and there is hope for the lowland gorilla moving forward.
